Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
The West Bengal government has officially promoted senior IPS officer Ajay Mukund Ranade to the prestigious rank of Director General of Police (DGP). According to the notification issued by the Home and Hill Affairs Department, Ranade has been appointed as the DGP and IGP (Law and Order).
A seasoned officer of the 1995 IPS batch, he was previously serving in the capacity of Additional Director General (ADG) and IGP within the same department. This promotion is set to take effect retrospectively from May 1, 2026.
The state government emphasized that this strategic appointment has been made in the interest of the public and to further strengthen the management of law and order across West Bengal. Ranade’s elevation is seen as a move to bring more experienced leadership to the top tiers of the state’s police administration.
